Mr. Robert A. "Bob" Lloyd Sr., 71, a lifelong resident of Elkins, went into the arms of his Lord and Savior Wednesday morning, March 6, 2013.
"Bob," as he was known to many, was born Jan. 23, 1942, at Elkins, the son of the late Oval and Elfa Lloyd.
He was united in marriage Feb. 27, 1965, at Elkins, to the love of his life, Sharon K. Wymer Lloyd, who survives in Elkins. They had recently celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary.
Also surviving are a daughter, Marsha K. Coakley and husband, Scott, of Rosemont; two sons, Robert A. Lloyd Jr. and wife, Patricia, of Bridgeport and Darren O. Lloyd of Elkins. One brother, Kenneth "Kenny" Lloyd of Elkins; two sisters, Dixie Bowers of Michigan, and Lorene Bunner of Elkins; one sister-in-law, Mary Watts of Maryland; two brothers-in-law, Jerry Wymer and wife, Linda, of Maryland and Steve Wymer and wife, Susie, of Whitmer; seven grandchildren, T.J. and Daniel Coakley, David, Cameron, Nicolette, Colin and Caroline Lloyd; one aunt, Irene Lowry of Maryland; and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Also preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary and Louie Wymer of Whitmer; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and one nephew.
Bob was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1960. He excelled in track and football, lettering in both sports and setting records he held for many years. After graduation from high school, he joined the United States Army Reserve serving as a tank commander and qualifying as a sharpshooter. He was stationed in Fort Knox, Ky., and later served as a member of the West Virginia National Guard. He was employed throughout the years by Montgomery Ward and Tygart Electric in Elkins. He was self-employed with partner Billie McCoy and later worked for Elkins Builders Supply Co. He was employed by West Virginia Division of Highways, District Eight, Buildings and Grounds as an electrician where he retired in October 2010 with 25 years of service. He was a member of Wayside United Methodist Church at Poe Run for 54 years and a member of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and the Randolph County Senior Center. He was a member of the Mountaineer Chapter of the Isaac Walton League and the West Virginia Classic Wheels Car Club of Buckhannon. Bob was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family. He was a car enthusiast and enjoyed antique cars and street rods. He especially enjoyed attending car shows in his 1966 Impala with his wife, Sharon, and their many car club friends. He was a master craftsman in many trades and could fix anything.
Never knowing a stranger, Bob made friends wherever he went and always ran into someone he knew. He spent his life helping others. He dearly loved his grandkids. One of the greatest joys of his life was spending time with them and with Sharon watching them participate in sporting events. He will be greatly missed by many.
Friends may call from 5 until 8 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 9, from Tomblyn Funeral Home with Pastor Bobbie Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in Elkins Memorial Gardens where presentation of the American flag will be made by members of the West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard Program.
