West Virginia Wesleyan College has received a $50,000 gift from Wade F. Sperry, a graduate from 1969, to establish a scholarship in memory of his brother, Walter C. Sperry.
The Sperry Scholarship will be awarded annually to one or more West Virginia Wesleyan College students with a preference given to students with physical or learning disabilities.
"We are most grateful for this generous gift," said Bob Skinner, vice president for advancement. "Securing dollars for scholarships and grants is always an institutional priority. Gifts such as these are the primary reason that Wesleyan is the only West Virginia college or university to be included in the 2013 U.S. News and World Report's Best Colleges Great Schools at Great Prices category."
West Virginia Wesleyan is a private residential college that offers 44 undergraduate majors, 34 minors, and graduate programs in athletic training, business administration, education, English creative writing and nursing.
Wesleyan is a first-tier college in the southeastern region in the most recent U.S. News and World Report Best Colleges guide and is listed as the 12th best baccalaureate college in The Washington Monthly.
