A Walkersville man is being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail in lieu of $85,000 after being arrested Thursday on a daytime burglary charge.

Bruce "Bub" Hicks, 44, of 264 Featherbed Road, is alleged to have broken into the house at 176 Wood Street in Buckhannon through a basement door on March 18, according to the complaint filed in Upshur County Magistrate Court.

Two bedrooms were reportedly ransacked, and items were thrown about the room, the complaint stated. Buckhannon Police Chief Matt Gregory said officer Mark Stewart recovered several items believed to have been removed from the house.

A safe found in the home was reportedly pried open, and about $50,000 was taken from it, the complaint stated.

Gregory said the Buckhannon Police Department's investigation was aided by Lewis County Sheriff Adam Gissy and Chief Deputy Randy Hyre.

Hicks is scheduled to appear before Upshur County Magistrate Juanita Adams at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday for a preliminary hearing.
