Edith Kerns Falk, 86, a resident of Elkins, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013, in Valentine Personal Care Home in Elkins following an extended illness.
She was born Sept. 15, 1926, at Elkins, a daughter of the late William Hyde and Lona Nestor Kerns.
She was married to Edward John Falk April 6, 1946, at Parsons, and they celebrated 61 years of marriage until his death Nov. 8, 2007.
Surviving are two daughters, Kathy Jane Falk Phillips and husband, Lynn, of Valley Bend and Connie Elaine Falk Mako and husband, Rick, of Fairfax Station, Va.; five grandchildren, Roslyn Phillips Howell and husband, Kevin, Jonathan Phillips and wife, Christina, John Dumsick and wife, Susannah, Frederick Mako and Elizabeth Mako. Surviving great-grandchildren are Ashten Phillips and Shanda Howell; great-great-grandchild, Bryson Anthony Phillips; and one sister, Frances Kerns Harper.
Also preceding her in death were one brother, William Dale Kerns; two sisters, Edna Kerns Lingle and Roselee Hyre; one niece, Catherine "Kay" Rose Lingle Phelps; and two nephews, William "Bill" Cain and David Hyre.
Edith was employed by Davis Memorial Hospital where she worked in the nursery caring for newborn babies and their mothers for 24 years. The family would like to give a special thank you to the caring staff at Valentine Personal Care Home in Elkins.
Friends may call from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 29, at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Terry Cannon officiating. Interment will follow in American Legion's Little Arlington Cemetery.
