Loring Charles Jones, 91, of Pipestem, formerly of Philippi, died Sunday, March 24, 2013, at the home of a son, at Pipestem.
He was born March 28, 1921, in Barbour County, a son of the late Charles M. and Ollie Findley Jones.
On March 21, 1942, he married the former Mabel Cecilia Harper, who survives at Pipestem.
Also surviving are two sons, David L. Jones and wife, Becky, of Pipestem and Larry A. Jones and wife, Terri, of Buckhannon; two grandsons, Matthew Hones of Buckhannon and Charles C. Jones and wife, Angela, of Princeton; one brother, Elson Jones and Sandra of Fairmont; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Charles David Jones; and by one sister, Loverine Chittester.
Mr. Jones was an inactive member of Philippi Baptist Church.
During World War II, he flew as an armorer gunner on a B-17 bomber with the 385th Bomb Group, 8th Army Air Forces, in England. Mr. Jones retired from the insurance business in 1975 and returned to Barbour County.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, March 29, from Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 S. Main St. in Philippi. The Rev. Joseph Carl Delauder, a cousin, will officiate, and interment will follow in Mountain State Memorial Gardens, U.S. 219 north of Elkins. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon until 1 p.m., the funeral hour, Friday.
