April is "Make it Shine Month," and Buckhannon City Council has announced four waste bins will be placed around town to encourage citizens to clean up their properties.
The bins are available free to citizens every Saturday in April. Bins are located at Buckhannon City Park, North Buckhannon Park, the Public Safety Complex and Water Department on Wood Street.
"We encourage the residents of Buckhannon to take advantage of that and clean up their properties and make Buckhannon look better," Waste Department Supervisor Jerry Arnold said.
Zoning officer Rich Clemens said he already has gotten calls about several properties that need to be cleaned up. He asks citizens to view their properties from their neighbor's perspectives, because some collections of items hidden behind a garage may not be visible to the household, but may be unsightly from the street.
"Maybe this would be a great time during April to get rid of those at no cost to you. Just get (trash items) to one of these dumpsters," Clemens said.
A celebration of recycling also will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 19, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 20 at the Crossroads Recycling Center.
Arnold also said there will be a residential paper shredding event from 9 a.m. to noon April 20 across from Crossroads in the Walmart parking lot.
