Tigers fall short at Grafton; TV wins

Mackenzie Cox had three hits to lead Grafton past Elkins 7-4 Tuesday in Big 10 Conference action.

Cox also had an RBI and a run scored for the Bearcats, while Lauren Adamczyk added two hits.

Erin Wambaugh notched the win for Grafton in seven innings of work. She gave up four runs on 10 hits, walked one and struck out seven.

Michaela Lewis-Lambert took the loss for the Lady Tigers (5-9) in seven innings of action.

She gave up seven runs on 10 hits, walked two and struck out 14.

Kelsi Trippett had two hits and scored two runs, while Jordan Hart and Madison Collett had two hits each and RBI for the Tigers.

Elkins will travel to Robert C. Byrd at 7 p.m. today for a Big 10 Conference makeup game.

Tygarts Valley ..... 10

Pocahontas County 0

HUTTONSVILLE - Charity Lower twirled a one-hitter as Tygarts Valley blanked Pocahontas County 10-0 Tuesday in Potomac Valley Conference action.

Shaunna Taylor hit her second homer of the year, while Alexis Vandevender had a triple and knocked in a run, and Danielle Johnson an inside-the-park homer for the Bulldogs.

The game ended in the third inning due to the mercy rule.

Kaylin Murray took the loss for the Warriors.

Tygarts Valley will travel to Tucker County at 4:30 p.m. today.

Petersburg 2

East Hardy 0

BAKER - Marly Thompson had three hits to lead Petersburg past East Hardy 2-0 Tuesday in non-conference action.

Cheyenne Earle had two hits and RBI for the Vikings (15-2).

Kaitlyn Keplinger notched the win for Petersburg in seven innings of work.

She gave up no runs on three hits, walked one and struck out five.

Jodie Funkhouser took the loss for the Lady Cougars (12-5) in seven innings of work.

She gave up one earned run on five hits, walked one and struck out zero.

Rayann Foltz, Morgan Mongold and Morgan Basye all had the hits for East Hardy.

Petersburg will travel to Moorefield at 7 p.m. today.

East Hardy will visit Broadway (Va.) at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Middle School

Elkins 16, Doddridge 6

WEST UNION - Sierra Poling smacked a grand slam to lead Elkins Middle School past Doddridge County 16-6 on Tuesday.

Korri Evans added a homer for the Hornets, while Haley Collett went 2-for-3 with a double and Haley Newlon was 1-for-1.

Susan Riggleman earned the win on the mound.

Elkins will return to action Tuesday at Robert L. Bland.
