Former Elkins resident Perry Allen Lanham Sr., 60, died April 18, 2013, at his home in Wooster, Ohio, after a brief illness with cancer.
Perry was born Nov. 9, 1952, at Elkins, to Arnett and Alma Hart Lanham.
He was formerly married to Theresa "Candy" Lanham.
He graduated from Elkins High School in 1970, where he earned several wrestling awards. Upon graduation, he worked at Elkins Industries for 23 years. When the plant closed, he enrolled in Davis & Elkins College, where he obtained an associate degree in business.
Perry was an avid bowler and certified bowling lanes for the Elkins Recreation Center for several decades. He enjoyed motorsports events and was a member of a men's softball league for many years.
He is survived by his son, Perry Allen "PJ" Lanham Jr. of Wooster, Ohio, and fiancee, Bernadine Chewning, and children, Johnnie Chewning, Nicci Stewart and Travise Chewning; and five special grandchildren, Clayton, Bradley, Kendra, Jayden and Kayden; Buddy Vanscoy and wife, Louise, of Augusta, Ga., and Arnett "June" Lanham Jr. and wife, Ellen, of Elkins; sisters, Emma Lou Teets and husband, Roy, of Elkins and Mary Mae Barnhart and husband, Don of Elkins; and nieces and nephews, Regina Woodcock, Kathy Leombruno and Brad Lanham, all of Elkins, Pam Vanscoy, Ronnie Vanscoy and Scott Vanscoy, all of Augusta, Ga., Debbie Manzo of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., David Teets of Lakeland, Fla., Kim Walls and Kevin Barnhart of Morgantown and Amy Lanham and Kristin Lanham of Baltimore, Md. He also had several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Perry was preceded in death by his parents, Arnett and Alma Lanham.
In 2005, he moved to Wooster, Ohio, where he shared a home with the family of Robbie and Sharon Chewning, who lovingly cared for him during his illness.
Auble Funeral Home in Orrville, Ohio, is in charge of the arrangements.
A memorial service will be conducted at a future date.
