Charity basketball game to benefit United Way

The staff of St. Joseph's Hospital and Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital will take to the courts April 30 as they face each other in a basketball game benefiting the United Way of Gilmer, Lewis, and Upshur counties.

Staff from each hospital are training for the first "Thunder Cup" game between the two organizations. St. Joseph's Hospital CEO Sue Johnson-Phillippe and Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital CEO Avah Stalnaker will participate in a special on-court challenge during halftime. Special activities for children will be included.

The game will be held at Buckhannon-Upshur High School at 6 p.m. and is open to the public. Advance tickets are $4 for adults and $2 for children under 12. Tickets at the door will be $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12.

All proceeds will benefit the United Way.

SJMH Chief Operating Officer Kevin Stalnaker, a longtime United Way supporter, is managing the team at SJMH. Team members include Maria Potter, Kathy Baile, Rhonda Brown, Rick Thomason, John Pope, Tom Law, Sean Hamner, Angie Lafferty, Dr. Shafic Sraj, Matt DeGarmo, Kevin Stalnaker, Tonya Stewart, Kay Beane, Jesse Swiger, Avah Stalnaker, Dr. Peter Edgerton, Mark Harris, Missy Barrett, Jackie Hall and Amy Burchett.

Cheerleaders are Asia Queen, Tina Burnside, Kristi Gannon, Jennifer Barnes and Nastausha Hefner.
