Jerry Dale Morrison, 70, a resident of Route 1, Kerens, the Pheasant Run Community, departed this life Thursday morning, April 25, 2013, in Hospice Care Regional Inpatient Center at Elkins. He had been in declining health.

He was born Friday, Sept. 18, 1942, at Kerens, a son of the late Carlton L. "Jack" and Mamie Ruth Hansford Pownell Morrison.

On March 7, 1964 at Ft. Belvoir, Va., he was married to the former Olive Mae Johnson, who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Kenneth C. "K.C." Morrison and wife, Donna, of Parsons, Dale R. Morrison of Chesapeake, Va., and James "Todd" Morrison and wife, Erica, of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; two brothers, Terrill L. "Terry" Morrison of Wilmington, N.C., and Philip F. Pownell and companion, Mary Johanna Nelson, of Elkins; one sister, Frances "Jean" Hinkel of Baltimore, Md.; eight grandchildren, Sarah Morrison, Steven Cousin, William "Billy" Morrison, William "Wil" Morrison, Alexandria "Alli" Morrison, Robert "Rob" Morrison, Rebecca "Becky" Morrison and Marla "Mollie" Morrison; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were two brothers, Charles A. and Robert A. Pownell.

He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1960 and was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served with the U.S. Army for six years. He was an air traffic controller, having worked at Washington National, Dryden, N,Y,, Charleston and Norfolk, Va., from which he retired. He attended Riverview Chapel Church at Porterwood and enjoyed hunting, fishing and driving the van for the Tucker County Senior Center.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 4. At 6 p.m., at the funeral home parlor, a funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. James Snyder. Cremation will follow.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Tucker County Senior Center, 217 Senior Lane, Parsons, WV 26287 or to the Riverview Chapel Church, 511 Walnut St., Parsons, WV 26287.
