Mr. Roscoe "Tom" Thompson, 87, a resident of Elkins, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013, in Valentine's Personal Care Home in Elkins.

He was born Dec. 20, 1925, at Riverton, a son of the late Blaine Cunningham and the late Gracie Thompson.

He was twice married, first to Ethel Ketterman, who preceded him in death Feb. 7, 1950. On July 18, 1954, at Elkins, he was married to Mary Catherine Woods Thompson who survives in Elkins.

Also surviving are three sons, Tommy Robert Thompson of Newton Falls, Ohio, Roy Thompson of Elkins and Ronald Thompson of Beverly; and four daughters, Doretha Sites of Seneca Rocks, Debra Snyder and Wilma Rogers, both of Elkins and Brenda Hyre of Buckhannon. One brother, Stanley Thompson of Riverton; 18 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren also survive.

Also preceding him in death were one son, Randall Thompson; one grandson, Joshua Thompson; two sisters, Alpha Wilfong and Ruth Wymer; three brothers, Clinton Thompson, Robert Thompson and Russell Thompson; a half sister, Zadie Lee; and a half brother, Mason "Doc" Cunningham.

Mr. Thompson was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator having worked for Butcher Construction prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Pilots Club at the Elkins-Randolph County Regional Airport. He was a Protestant by faith, and his passion was reading the Bible, flying, watching birds, westerns and spending time with his family.

Friends may call from 6 until 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at Tygart Valley Ministries at Beverly. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday from the church with Pastor Curlie Ray Jr., Pastor Conley Ogden and Pastor Rick Price officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman. Presentation of the American flag will be made by members of the West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard Program.
