Smokey Bear helps celebrate Earth Day

May 7, 2013
The Inter-Mountain
Rondi Fischer, a ranger with the Monongahela National Forest, invited Smokey Bear to celebrate the 43rd Earth Day at the Linwood Library at Snowshoe. After hearing Smokey share forest wisdom and lead a discussion on the danger of forest fires, the group enjoyed a pot-luck dinner. Some of the children are shown here with Smokey at the Earth Day program. The website states more than 1 billion people in 192 countries honor Earth Day, which was founded in 1970 by Gaylord Nelson, then a U.S. senator from Wisconsin.
