The Pickens School archery team competed in the 2013 West Virginia Archery in the Schools State Tournament recently in Charleston.
Three of the nine students on the team won at the state level and are competing in the national competition this weekend in Louisville, Ky.
Students in the elementary girls division who won individual awards were sixth-grader Ceirra Kelley, who placed second; fourth- grader Tanisha Vaughn, who placed third; and sixth- grader Hannah Parsons, who placed fifth.
By placing in the top five at the state tournament, these students qualified to shoot at the 2013 NASP National Tournament.
The team, coached by John Parsons, was formed last year.
The team had one student, Hannah Parsons, win at the state level during the 2012 state tournament. She also competed in the national tourney.
