Mrs. Joann Katherine Shomo Miller, 79, a resident of Junior, departed this life Wednesday, May 15, 2013, in Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown. She had been in declining health but death was unexpected.
She was born Sept 29, 1933, at Belington, a daughter of the late Gordon Garrett and Verna Daniels Shomo.
On Nov. 16, 1973, at Bel Air, Md., she was united in marriage to James Edgar Miller, who preceded her in death Dec. 9, 2012.
She is survived by two daughters, Debbie Ash and husband, Donnie, of Junior, and Penny Skidmore of Junior; one sister, Mamie Carpenter of Belington; grandchildren, Jessica Skidmore and companion, Barb, of Junior, Tommy Ash and wife, Evelyn, of New York, Timmy Ash and wife, Rachel, of Cassity and Beth Ann St. Vincent of Nashville, Tenn.; 14 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her canine companions, Duchess, Abbie and Evie.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Edward Shomo.
Mrs. Miller graduated from Belington High School with the class of 1951. She was formerly employed at the Gleneagles Sewing factory at Bel Air, Md. Joann had a great love of sewing. She enjoyed indoor and outdoor flower gardening and truly enjoyed her fish pond. She was a member of Weaver Church of the Nazarene and a homemaker.
Friends will be received from Talbott Funeral Home in Belington Sunday, May 19, from noon to 2 p.m. when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Johnny P. Williams II officiating. Interment will follow in the K of P Cemetery at Junior.
