Prep baseball regional action to get underway today

Prep baseball postseason action gets back underway today with regional semifinal action.

Buckhannon-Upshur will travel to Hampshire for a 5 p.m. contest in a Class AAA,?Region II semifinal. The Bucs lost the Trojans, 8-2, earlier this season.

The winner will face either Jefferson or Hedgesville in the finals on Wednesday with a trip to the state tournament on the line.

Class AA regional semifinal action begins on Tuesday as Philip Barbour hosts Bridgeport and Petersburg travels to Frankfort.

The winners will meet on Thursday for the regional title.

In Class A, Tucker County will travel to Notre Dame on Tuesday. The Mountain Lions were awarded the sectional against Tygarts Valley by forfeit.

East Hardy also visits Pendleton County on Tuesday in the other half of the region.

The winners will square off on Thursday.

In the high school softball tournament, which begins Wednesday in Vienna, Moorefield and Petersburg will both compete.

The Yellow Jackets (25-3) will face Man (19-5) in at approximately 12:15 p.m. Wednesday in Class A semifinal action.

Wheeling Central faces Buffalo in the other semifinal.

Petersburg, meanwhile, battles James Monroe at approximately 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in Class AA semifinal play.

Ritchie County and Wayne are the other two teams in the tourney.

The championship round of the double-elimination tournament is set for Thursday.
