Some nasty weather touched down in the area Thursday, including thunderstorms and some reports of severe wind and hail in the Elkins, Buckhannon and Weston areas. However, forecasters are calling for less turbulent weather leading up to Memorial Day weekend.

For today, Liz Sommerville, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Charleston, is reporting a chance of thunderstorms throughout the day into the evening and overnight hours.

The weather is causing the temperature to drop a bit, with a high of 73 and lows in the upper 40's tonight expected.

However, Sommerville assured that the majority of this holiday weekend should be agreeable.

"It looks like the storms are going to taper off on Friday and it should be fairly pleasant going into the weekend," she reported.

Sommerville did warn that there is a very slight chance for showers again on Monday in the evening and overnight hours.
