EHS tennis player signs with Senators

Elkins High School's Jonathan Gainer has signed a letter-of-intent to play tennis at Davis & Elkins College for next season.

"I started playing tennis when I was a sophomore in high school," Gainer said. "I really enjoyed the three years I played (in high school) and I'm excited to be able to move the next level."

Gainer made it to the state tournament this past season.

He also played soccer and competed in swimming for the Tigers.

Gainer plans to major in exercise science at D&E.

"I really enjoyed the campus when I went on my tour," Gainer said. "I liked the coaching staff and what they have done the last couple of years."

"I wish all the best to Jonathan and his future tennis career at Davis & Elkins College," added Elkins head tennis coach Brandon Simmons

"He is a prime example of a student-athlete displaying not only great talent on the tennis court, but in the classroom as well.

"I know that Jonathan will make the Tigers proud next year at D&E."

Gainer is the son of Jim and Marisa Gainer of Elkins.
