Othel B. Vandevander Hannah, 94, a resident of Valley Head, passed away Saturday morning, May 25, 2013, in Valentines Personal Care Home.

She was born Oct. 24, 1918, at Cherry Grove, a daughter of the late Garrett and Gladys Vandevander.

On Oct. 17, 1936, in Maryland, she was married to Guy Edgar Hannah, who preceded her in death Nov. 6, 1974.

She is survived by one daughter, Carrice Honaker and husband, Gary, of Charleston; and grandchildren, Harolronda Robbins and husband, Billy, of Broken Arrow, Okla., DeAnn Jones of Hudson, Ohio, Lisa Currence and husband, Billy, of Dailey, Bobby Gibson of Valley Head and Roderick Gibson and wife, Crystal, of Mill Creek. Also surviving are 16 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were three brothers, Mack, Ward and Roscoe Vandevander; one grandson-in-law, Barry Jones; and one great-grandson, Shawn Currence.

Othel was a woman of many talents. She ran her family farm until she was in her late 80s and had a business in Valley Head in the 1940s and 1950s. She was very active in Valley Head United Methodist Church, the Women of the Methodist Church where she had been treasurer and was a member of Randolph Chapter 74 Order of the Eastern Star of Elkins, Farm Women's Club and Valley Head Elementary School PTA. She was always available to her friends and family when they needed comfort, food, a ride to an appointment or just good conversation.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, at Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins. At 7 p.m., Wednesday, Cass Chapter No. 124 Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a memorial service from the funeral home chapel. On Thursday morning, Mrs. Hannah will be moved to Valley Head United Methodist Church for visitation from 10 to 11 a.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Basil A. Hensley and the Rev. Ann Fretwell will officiate, and interment will follow in Valley Head Cemetery.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Valley Head United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1264, Elkins, WV 26241, in memory of Mrs. Hannah.
