Fonzo Vincent Jr., 85, of Buckhannon, died Sunday, May 26, 2013, at his home.
He was born Feb. 26, 1928, at Mt. Gay, a son of the late Fonzo Edward and Virgie Allen Vincent.
On April 12, 1947, he married Pearl Smith, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, K. David Vincent and wife, Vicki, of Buckhannon; three daughters, Sandra Grubbs and husband, Jack, and Sonja Lynn Carlson, both of Knoxville, Tenn., and Nancy Sanders and husband, Jim, of Mt. Clare; seven grandsons, Brandon Vincent and wife, Aimee, of Ashburn, Va., Mitchell Vincent and wife, Rebecca, of Hurricane, Jay Poling and wife, Teresa, of Sutton, Marc Poling and wife, Dianna, and Adam Grubbs, both of Knoxville, Tenn., Ben Carlson of Atlanta, Ga., and Bryan Sanders and wife, Christie, of Anmoore; two granddaughters, Lora McCarter and husband, Jason, of Knoxville, Tenn., and Jennifer Geibel and husband, Greg, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Edward Vincent; and three sisters, Margie McNeely, Mollie Lorain Trent and Virginia Fern Bragg.
Mr. Vincent was a supervisor for Upshur Coals Corp. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was an ordained deacon and attended Christian Fellowship Church.
Friends will be received today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. J. Edward McDaniels, the Rev. Donald Butcher and Frank Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Buckhannon Memorial Park in Buckhannon. Buckhannon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post 7 American Legion and Disabled American Veterans Chapters 5 and 36 will conduct military honors at the graveside.
