A group of Davis & Elkins College students and faculty spent Memorial Day visiting the beaches of Normandy, Utah, Omaha, Gold and Point D’Hoc, as well as the American cemetery dedicated to the 9,387 soldiers who were killed during the 100 days of the invasion on Normandy, France. Senior Rivanna Kyle, of Mill Creek, and sophomore Kara Parrack, of Beverly, look at a headstone of an American soldier who died during the Battle of Normandy, which started June 6, 1944. The visit is part of a 16-day tour of Europe in which the group traces the events of World War II with stops in England, France, Germany, Belgium and Austria.
