An early threat of rain diminished on Thursday evening to allow Allegheny Insurance of Elkins and Master's Pest Management out of Buckhannon to get the 2013 Fuzz Jones Invitational underway at Robin Harvey Memorial Field.
The 12-team Babe Ruth tournament features teams from Elkins, Upshur County, Barbour County and Pendleton County.
In Thursday's opening game, the Elkins squad picked up the win over the Upshur visitors with a 13-3 decision in five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Allegheny Insurance’s Daniel Crawford releases a pitch against Master’s Pest Management Thursday in Fuzz Jones Invitational action at Robin Harvey Memorial Field. Crawford struck out 12 batters as Allegheny won the first game of the invitational, 13-3.
The story of the game could have been written from the stat line from the top of the first inning when Allegheny picked up four runs on only one hit as Master's Pest committed three errors.
All told, the team from Buckhannon had a total of 11 errors. However, miscues were not not the only item that led to Allegheny's success as Alex Kisner had a triple and three RBIs and pitcher Daniel Crawford had 12 strikeouts in five innings of work. Crawford also helped his cause with a single and an RBI as well.
Allegheny coach John Shaw praised his charges.
"Everybody gave a great effort tonight and I was proud of the team," Shaw said. "We had good pitching, good hitting and good baserunning tonight."
He also mentioned that had it not been for the large number of errors by Master's Pest, the game would have been much closer.
Allegheny's next game will be at noon on Saturday.
Broughton's Sports of Elkins and Lizard Graphic's were slated to play in Thursday's first game but the Barbour County squad didn't have enough players to field a team.
Action will continue today with a pair of games starting at 6 p.m.
