By Katie Kuba - Senior Staff Writer , The Inter-Mountain

The case of a Valley Head woman arrested for child abuse April 29 was bound over to Randolph County Circuit Court Tuesday.

Crystal Lee Bennett, 29, waived her right to a preliminary hearing in Randolph County Magistrate Court after being charged with child abuse resulting in risk of injury, a felony. Although she was not arrested until late April, on April 8, Bennett allegedly took medication prescribed to one of her two children and exposed both to other narcotics she obtained illegally.

Bennett allegedly told police she'd ingested her daughter's medication for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD, and when officers searched the residence they allegedly found a "silver, metallic, smoking device" covered with residue that smelled of burned marijuana, according to previous reports. Officers also allegedly discovered a purple plastic grinder containing a white powdery residue next to two 3-inch-long plastic straws.

Bennett allegedly admitted to using the grinder to grind up Percocet and Xanax pills for which she had no valid prescription, according to the criminal complaint.

She is free on bond.
