Elkins Fordland is inviting the community to join in as the children of the staff host the first Alex's Lemonade Stand on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event will take place at Elkins Fordland, located on the Beverly Pike. The children will be serving lemonade and baked goods, and will offer more information about the event.
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra "Alex" Scott (1996-2004). In 2000, 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer.
Since Alex held that first stand, the foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of supporters across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. To date the ALSF, a registered 501 charity, has raised more than $60 million toward fulfilling Alex?s dream of finding a cure.
Officials invite residents to come out and show their support to the children, as well as the ALSF vision of finding a cure for childhood cancer, one cup at a time.
