June 18, 2013
The Inter-Mountain

The Buckhannon-Upshur Farmer's Market will host its second Chili Cook-Off competition in conjunction with the Main Street Arts Festival in downtown Buckhannon this fall, and competitors and artisans are urged to sign up now.

The event is set for 10 a.m. 5 p.m. Sept. 21.

The Chili Cook-Off entry fee is $30, and cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third places in homestyle chili, best overall cornbread, best overall hot dog chili and best overall salsa. Other prizes will include best booth and people's choice in chili.

Information on participating and a complete list of rules and regulations are available by contacting the West Virginia University Extension Office at 304-473-4208. Entries must be received or postmarked by Sept. 14.

The Main Street Arts Festival is the best way for visitors to talk to artisans, watch as they demonstrate their work and immerse themselves in Buckhannon's small-town charm. Artists across the state of West Virginia are featured each year, bringing talented professionals from the Tamarack and more to downtown Buckhannon.

Last year featured more than 30 individual artist, local dancers, musicians, performers and special activities for children. For more information or participate with the Main Street Arts Festival, anyone interested can call 304-473-1400.

These family-friendly events are sponsored by the Buckhannon Upshur Farmer's Market Association, Main Street Arts Co-op, local farms, local artisans and local businesses.
