The West Virginia State Fire Marshal's office is burning for information that could assist with the investigation of a Barbour County arson.
State Fire Marshal Ronald "Mackey" Ayersman distributed information by e-mail Wednesday offering the possibility of a $5,000 award for information.
Last week, a fire destroyed a mobile home on Stone Cold Road in the Brownton area of Philippi. The fire occurred in the early morning of June 14. It was reported too late for emergency responders to prevent a total loss of the home, Philippi Fire Chief John Green said earlier this week.
The fire was ruled an arson because the home was not hooked up to utilities and did not have occupants at the time of the fire, officials said.
A family was preparing to move into the home. The fire is being investigated by the state Fire Marshal's office.
Anyone who may have information that could assist in the investigation is encouraged to call the West Virginia Arson Hotline at 1-800-233-FIRE or the Barbour County Sheriff's Department at 304-457-2352.
