ON?TRAC downtown yard sale planned

June 26, 2013
The Inter-Mountain

Bargains will fill the sidewalks of downtown Elkins July 20 during the second annual Downtown Yard Sale sponsored by Elkins ON TRAC.

Downtown businesses and property owners are invited to place tables with sale items on the sidewalks in front of their buildings from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A limited amount of space is also available for local residents to participate in the yard sale.

ON TRAC hopes to make the yard sale a friendly summertime tradition in downtown Elkins.

"Nothing says summer like a yard sale," said ON TRAC Project Manager Karen Carper. "We want to create a downtown neighborhood atmosphere where people can enjoy shopping and visiting together."

The yard sale is not limited to store merchandise from businesses but may also include furniture, clothing and other items. Business and property owners are welcome to bring items from home for the yard sale, Carper said.

The event is free for all downtown businesses and property owners. Employees and tenants may also participate at no charge.

Eligible residents living in or near Elkins must register in advance and pay a $10 fee for each 10-by-10-foot space. Spaces will be designated and pre-assigned to registrants on a first-come, first-served basis. Local organizations are also welcome. Participants must provide their own tables and chairs. Food items, other than those provided by downtown restaurants, are not permitted. Electricity is not available.

The fees collected will support ON TRAC's programs and activities in downtown Elkins.

Registration forms are available by email request to info@elkinsontrac.org or may be picked up at the Elkins ON TRAC office located at 421 Davis Ave. Registration and payment must be received by July 15.

The Downtown Yard Sale is one of many events hosted by Elkins ON TRAC in downtown Elkins.

The street fair, "Artists Gather," will be held in conjunction with First Friday activities Aug. 2. The fair will feature the work of local artists from 3 to 7 p.m. on Third Street, which will be closed from Davis Avenue to Kerens Avenue for the event.
