Community Corrections finds new home

July 1, 2013
By John Wickline - Upshur Bureau Chief (jwickline@theintermountain.com) , The Inter-Mountain

The Community Corrections program has found a new home in Buckhannon, just days after receiving a notice to vacate its current location.

Upshur County Commissioners approved a one-year lease between the Community Corrections program and Q4 Holdings LLC Thursday for a property at 31 North Florida St.

Q4 Holdings LLC is a Buckhannon company located on Mount Nebo Road.

The rent will be for $700 per month, according to the lease agreement, which is similar to what the program is paying for its current location. The Community Corrections program will also be responsible for paying utility costs.

The organization, which serves Lewis, Upshur and Braxton counties, has been located on Main Street across from the Upshur County Courthouse. It also operates facilities in Lewis and Braxton counties.

The move comes after Upshur County commissioners declined to purchase the Buckhannon building and following a discussion director Micah Hitt-Harris had with the county commission June 14. Harris complained that the Buckhannon office had to be closed twice in June because of septic problems. She also complained of having no air-conditioning nor windows which could support an air-conditioning unit.

She said any office would need to have at least two bathrooms so that drug screenings could be conducted on program clients. She said she would prefer to be close to the courthouse for security reasons.
