The Barbour County Commission will consider the installation of a new phone system to replace the outdated telephone system at the courthouse.
"I think we need to upgrade what we have," Commissioner Tim McDaniels said.
The project may require rewiring of the entire phone cabling system at the courthouse. Commissioners learned that the project may be expensive because of the building's thick walls. Commissioners agreed that the upgrade is needed and said the project will be bid upon. Until then, the actual costs for the upgrade are unknown.
The commissioners also approved a new phone line request for the Barbour County Probation Office. The request was submitted because multiple employees were sharing only one phone line, presenting a difficulty to any employee who must wait to make a call.
"We're going to have to do something," County Administrator Chuck Foley said.
The following business also was conducted by Barbour County Commission:
The commission will meet at noon Monday to revise the coal severance tax budget. The commissioners also decided to have a regular meeting at 5 p.m. on July 29 in lieu of having an August meeting because of a conflict with a training program. The Barbour County Commission usually meets on the first Monday of each month.
