Elkins Post 29 clinched the Area 7 regular-season title with a 2-1 win over Buckhannon Wednesday night at Elkins High School.
The victory gives Elkins the home field for the Area 7 tournament, which gets underway July 24.
Post 29 scored both of its runs in the first inning when Tyler Shreve reached on a fielder's choice and trotted home on a double by Colby Gainer. The second run scored on an error.
In the eighth inning, Post 7 cut the lead to 2-1 as Cory Reed delivered an RBI single to score Dalton Crislip.
Brandon Hamons went seven strong innings to earn the win. He allowed just no runs on three hits, struck out five and walked three to improve to 5-4 on the season. Brennan Dettinger earned the save, allowing one run on two hits, fanning four and walking two.
It was his fourth save of the season.
Daniel Powell took the loss for Buckhannon in eight innings of action. He gave up two runs on seven hits, struck out three and walked four.
Chance Price went 3-for-3 to lead Post 29 at the plate.
"Brandon pitched a tremendous game for us," Elkins general manager Chris George said.
"But we still have to find ways to hit the ball when we have runners in scoring position and score some more runs."
Elkins (15-16 overall, 4-0 Area 7) will host Morgantown at 7 p.m. today at Robin Harvey Memorial Field.
Post 29 will remain home over the weekend with doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday at Robin Harvey Memorial Field.
Elkins will face Romney for a twin-bill at 2 p.m. on Saturday, followed by a pair of games starting at 2 p.m. Sunday against South Charleston.
