Randolph County Sheriff's Office deputies are combing the area for an Elkins man they believe shot another man in the back of the head while riding in a car Monday.
The suspect, Wade Allen Raese, 30, is considered armed and dangerous, officials said.
Randolph County Sheriff Mark Brady told The Inter-Mountain that at about 8:30 p.m. Monday deputies were dispatched by the Randolph County 911 Center to Davis Memorial Hospital in reference to a man suffering from a gun shot wound to the head.
Brady said hospital staff identified the victim as Earl Young. Officers located an acquaintance of Young in the waiting room of the hospital, who gave officers the victim's full name, Ryan Earl Young, Brady said.
Young was later transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, Brady said. His condition was unknown at presstime.
"The acquaintance further stated that Wade Raese shot the victim inside of a vehicle they were all three in driving in Highland Park," Brady said.
"The acquaintance stated they were driving in the motor vehicle when the victim was in the passenger seat and Wade Raese was in the backseat, behind the victim, and did shoot the victim." Brady added that the acquaintance was driving the vehicle.
Brady said officers were "searching everywhere" and attempting to locate Raese's friends. Brady said the type of firearm used in the alleged shooting was still unknown.
Anyone with any information is asked to call the Randolph County Sheriff's Office at 304-636-2111, the tipline at 304-636-TIPS (8477) or, in an emergency situation, 911.
Information about Young's age or where he is from was not released by police.
