Elkins will become a downtown neighborhood Saturday during the second annual Downtown Yard Sale sponsored by Elkins ON TRAC.
Sidewalks in the downtown area will feature an array of bargains, from housewares, baby items and toys to bicycles, clothing and furniture from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event was designed to create a sense of community and boost business activity in the downtown area.
"We want to create a friendly, neighborhood atmosphere right in the heart of downtown Elkins," said ON TRAC Project Manager Karen Carper.
Several downtown businesses have registered to participate in the event.
Third Street businesses include B&J Music and Sports, Hometown Cafe, Hopscotch, Joey's Bike Shop, Talbott Frameshop and Third Street Trading Company. Participating businesses on Davis Avenue are Clara Belle's, Elkins Sewing Center, Sewing for the Season, The Ice Cream Train and The Rustic Corner.
Located on the corner of Third Street and Henry Avenue, Hometown Cafe will open the restaurant's adjoining garage for an expanded sale. Owners of the Wilt Building will also hold an indoor "yard sale" in the Davis Avenue storefront, formerly occupied by Hut 8. Both will offer a broad selection of baby and other household items.
Hopscotch and Third Street Trading Company, located side-by-side in the 100 block of Third Street, will offer furniture, baby items and household decor.
Used bicycles and a 20-percent-off discount rack of cycling products will be available at Joey's Bike Shop, on Third Street near the Elkins Depot. Talbott Frameshop, 220 Third St., will offer a selection of prints, frames, mats and miscellaneous sale items.
Fabric as well as clothes, shoes and housewares will be available outside Sewing for the Season at 216 Davis Ave. Fabric and sewing products will also be featured at the Elkins Sewing Center at the corner of Davis Avenue and Third Street.
Located at 320 Davis Ave. in the historic Stalnaker Block building, Clara Belle's will have locally crafted items and homemade baked good and treats for sale.
Clothing and miscellaneous items will be available at The Rustic Corner on Davis Avenue at Fifth Street. The Ice Cream Train, a new Davis Avenue business located next to the Tygart Hotel, will also participate.
The yard sale event is also open to other businesses, organizations and individuals. The Randolph Avenue business, Certainty Stores, will bring handbags, WVU gear, novelties and stuffed animals to their downtown sidewalk location.
Any property owner, business, resident or organization located in the downtown business district is welcome to participate at their location. Advance registration is required for those who are not located downtown to participate in the event.
