New attractions are coming to the Upshur County Fair this year.
Hallie Riley, the president of the fair's board of directors, said a new pet show, a HealthNet static display and an archery competition have been added to the lineup of this year's events.
The fair is hosted in Rock Cave at the fairgrounds located behind the Banks District Volunteer Fire Department.
Beverly Davis, the treasurer of the Upshur County Fair Board, said the pet show is open to anyone who wants to enter a pet. Everyone gets a ribbon for participation. The pet show is from 3-4 p.m. Sunday.
Riley said that if an emergency arises, HealthNet will have to end its static display early. The display is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
The archery competition is open to the public from noon to 4 p.m Saturday. Awards from Cabella's may include a $100 gift card, a 3-D deer target and some Scent Away to use before hunting.
Cabella's also provided discount cards that allow people to get some money back on purchases of a certain amount within the store. Those cards will be given to the first 500 people who enter the gate.
There will be a $2 admission fee at the gates to cover the cost of the entertainment at the fair.
The bands Full Cirkle and Johnny Cochran and the Trailblazers will perform at this year's fair for the first time, Riley said. Johnny Cochran and the Trailblazers perform from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, followed by Full Cirkle from 8-10 p.m.
