Register now for Senior Center driver safety course

A driver safety program with AARP, an innovative classroom driver retraining program designed to help older persons improve their skills, is being offered Aug. 13, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Barbour County Senior Center. The Senior Center is located at the corner of Main and Church streets in Philippi.

This eight-hour course was developed by AARP and covers the effects of aging and medications on driving, basic driving rules, license renewal, local traffic hazards, adverse road conditions, energy saving and accident prevention measures.

Adults 50 years of age or older are eligible to participate in the program; No insurance discount is available for people age 50. The course fee is $12 for AARP members and $14 for nonmembers. If the participant brings his/her AARP membership card to the class, he/she will receive a $2 discount.

Please bring a check made payable for the correct amount on the first day of class. The class is limited to 15 participants. If you wish to register, call the Barbour County Senior Center at 304-457-4545.

Any person 60 years of age or older is welcome to participate in programs and services sponsored by the West Virginia Bureau of Senior Services regardless of race, creed, sex, handicap, geographic residence or national origin.
