Upshur County will soon be home to a new dine-in steakhouse.
Bennett's Steakhouse could open its doors to hungry customers as early as Aug. 21, co-owner Ralph Bennett said. The restaurant is located along West Virginia Route 20 South in a building formerly known to locals as Maroma's.
"I had dozens of people ask me if we would consider bringing a steakhouse here," Bennett said. "We find that the people in the Buckhannon area are just wonderful people."
Although Aug. 21 is not a finalized opening date, business hours for the restaurant will be the same regardless of when customers starting coming through the doors. Doors will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
Bennett said he is a co-owner of the new restaurant with his wife, Barbara Bennett. The Bennetts also share part ownership in the Steer Steakhouses in both Weston and Elkins. Ralph Bennett said that the business was the first full ownership of a steakhouse restaurant for him and his wife.
The Steer Steakhouse restaurants serve guests buffet-style. Bennett's Steakhouse will be different. Ralph Bennett said the building is smaller, and he didn't believe he could give up the necessary room for a buffet. He said if he was going to do a buffet, he would want to "do it right."
"We give you the full service the entire time you're here," Ralph Bennett said, adding that the steaks served there "will be a high-quality steak."
The steakhouse will feature choice Black Angus beef. Chicken, seafood, pasta and more will be included on the menu.
Those who want to apply for a job at the new restaurant may do so from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. while the business is preparing for its opening.
