Kenneth L. Schoonover, 85, of Port Orange, Fla., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, in Port Orange under the care of Hospice of Volusia County. He was born March 15, 1928, in Kerns, W.Va., a son of the late Henry Thomas and Beulah Taylor Schoonover. He was married to the former Pauline Moore, who preceded him in death in 2001. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Kathryn Smith; Freda Schoonover; Gazelle Shrader; and Gene Kern; and a brother, Edgar Schoonover. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by his stepchildren, Mildred Scalercio, Port Orange, Fla.; who provided for his care; Bennie McDonald and wife, Charlotte, of Junior; Jeanie Canterbury and husband, Eddie, of Belington; and Donald McDonald and wife, Alice, of Philippi; and several stepgrandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Mr. Schoonover was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Port Orange, Fla.

A graveside service will be held at Israel United Methodist Church Cemetery near Kerens on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, at 5 p.m. with Pastor John Paul Williams II officiating.
