CLARKSBURG - Buckhannon-Upshur scored three first-half goals to coast by Robert C. Byrd 5-0 Wednesday night in Big 10 Conference soccer action.

The Bucs improved to 3-1 with the win.

Dylan Hall scored the first two goals for B-U, the first coming off an assist from Marty Elliot at the 21:00 mark, followed by a converted penalty kick 5:00 later.

Elliot found the net just before halftime with Trey Short supplying the assist to make it 3-0.

Austin Carpenter and Short added goals in the second half with Matthew McCoy tallying an assist on the latter score.

B-U held a 9-5 advantage on shots on goal and a 4-3 edge on corner kicks. Chris Orwig recorded five saves in net for the winners, while Justin Welling had five stops for the Eagles.

"We connected on four one-touch passes to get Dylan on goal for our first score," Bucs head coach Mike Donato said. "It was some of the best passing and team play I have seen in a while. "Every pass we made tonight was with purpose. Rarely did anyone send a pass that wasn't played to the proper space or to feet.

"Defensively we were very solid. They have some fast forwards they target and our backs did an excellent job of limiting their passes and not allowing their scorers to get any good looks."

The Bucs will return to action at 8 p.m. Tuesday at home against Philip Barbour for another league game.
