Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 14-15, are volunteer work days for Heart of the Highlands. We will be meeting at 9:30 a.m. at the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center parking lot, then caravanning to our work sites on the Allegheny Trail (Mon National Forest) and Middle Ridge Trail (Canaan Valley State Park).
Many of you know the drill: wear boots and long pants, gloves if you have them (we have many pairs to share), bring water and food for on the trail and a raincoat. Stay for as much or as little of the day that you can share with us. Tools and instruction will be provided.
Some great work has been happening on the Allegheny Trail over the summer thanks to Zachary Adams, our trail crew leader, and a few hard-working AmeriCorps volunteers - much of it on days with rain! We also have a Student Conservation Association crew beginning work this month to do some much needed trail maintenance on these trails. They will be joining us for this maintenance blitz.
This weekend, there are rocks and logs to move, turnpike to be built and higher/drier tread to construct - not to mention fun to be had working together and some lighter duty tasks. Please email or call 304-866-4757 with questions. RSVPs are appreciated. We hope to see you this weekend.
