Ronald Lester "JR" Collins Jr., 64, a resident of Elkins, departed this life Sunday evening, Sept. 15, 2013, in Nella's Inc. at Crystal Springs, Elkins, with his family by his side. He had been in declining health.
He was born Friday, Nov. 26, 1948, at Elkins, a son of the late Ronald Lester Sr. and Rachel U. Gochenour "Peg" Collins.
He was formerly married to Kathy (Bender) Hornbeck, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are one brother, William Harper "Bill" Collins of Elkins; one sister-in-law, Thelma Jeanette Collins of Elkins; one nephew, Russell "Ray" Collins of Pennsylvania; and one niece, Linda Ellen Garcia, of Michigan.
Preceding him in death was one brother, Kenneth Jack Collins.
He was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1968 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He had formerly worked in a sawmill and worked in food service at Davis & Elkins College for several years. He was a former member of the Aerie 2344 Fraternal Order of Eagles, was a member of the Tygart Valley Lodge 66 IOOF, H.W. Daniel's Post 29 American Legion and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. On Wednesday, at 7 p.m., at the funeral home, Tygart Valley Lodge 66, IOOF will conduct ritualistic services. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home Thursday, Sept. 19, at 12:30 p.m. Evangelist Gary L. Kendall Sr. will officiate, and interment will follow in Elkins Memorial Gardens on the Country Club Road.
