The Guess Who’s lead singer, Derek Sharp, gets the crowd involved during the band’s finale Saturday night at the Harper-McNeeley Auditorium in Elkins.

Members of the band, who met fans before the concert to sign items and take photos, said they were rarely surprised, but found Philippi resident Ed Watson's autograph request a first.

"I brought in one of my old 8-track tapes of The Guess Who for the members to sign," Watson said. "They said they never remember anyone asking them to sign an 8-track before. It was a great time!"

The band performed their classic hits, including "American Woman," "These Eyes," "No Sugar Tonight," "No Time," "Shakin' All Over," "Clap for the Wolfman" and "Share the Land."

Elkins Mayor Van Broughton said he thoroughly enjoyed the show.

"It was an awesome, excellent concert," Broughton said. "It brought back lots of great memories."

Bandmember Jim Kale told the audience The Guess Who started in 1963 and hit the United States in 1965.

"People ask me what keeps me going with the band," Kale said. "I tell them when I look in the rearview mirror, I see my manager's face."

Kale said the band enjoys performing and touring.

"The citizens of the United States make our band feel welcome, and have done so for a very long time," Kale said. "We thank you very much."

Maid Silvia Ashley Elizabeth Houchin and her maids of honor, Amber Marie Karlen and Kara LeeAnne Parrack, attended the show together.

"I thought the Guess Who concert was great," Houchin said. "We had a good time and really enjoyed their music."

The concert was made possible through sponsorships vy Elkins Fordland, the West Virginia Lottery, The Inter-Mountain, WBOY and WDNE 98.9.
