Anyone wanting to sharpen their golf skills or even learn to play is in luck with two special programs offered at Davis & Elkins College's unique Seybolt Golf Academy.
Named in honor of D&E alumnus Dick Seybolt, the indoor facility allows golfers to master their short game, even during the winter. The academy course includes seven different grass heights, a sand trap and tough putts. A computer-controlled golf simulator provides the challenge of playing on six of the world's renowned championship courses. The facility is located in Martin Field House on the D&E campus.
Davis & Elkins College golf coaches and players will provide free lessons to military personnel and their families from Oct. 14-31. Those interested may schedule a time by calling Head Golf Coach Alasdair Forsythe at 304-940-5561 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
The academy also will be open to the public every Monday through Friday, from 6 to 8 p.m., beginning Nov. 4 and continuing through March 7. However, the facility will be closed during the college's Christmas break, Dec. 20 through Jan. 1.
Community golfers may use the facility on a walk-in basis during open hours, and members of the D&E golf team will be on hand to help. Although there is no user fee, donations toward maintaining the academy will be welcome.
"There is no better place to work on your game during the winter," Forsythe said. "We hope everyone takes the opportunity to enjoy our state-of-the-art facility."
