Philippi CVB preps for festival

October 8, 2013
The Inter-Mountain

A full day of fun is planned for visitors to downtown Philippi on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. "We think we have something for everyone in this first downtown Philippi Fall Festival," said CVB President Annette Fetty-Santilli. "Our downtown is decorated for the fall, and many of our businesses are featuring fall decorations in their windows," added Main Street Director Tammy Stemple.

The Philippi CVB, in partnership with Philippi Main Street and Adaland Mansion at Philippi, will kick off "Fall in Love with Philippi" with a Pet Parade beginning at 10 a.m. at the Philippi Public Library and winding around the county courthouse.

Vendors will open their displays on Philippi's Main Street also at 10 a.m. A few available vendor spaces may still be secured by calling Tammy Stemple at 304-457-3700, ext. 226, or Annette Fetty-Santilli at 304-457-6322. All spaces are open to artists, crafters, and vendors of food and specialty items.

A full day of fun is planned for visitors to downtown Philippi on Saturday, Oct. 12.

Children of all ages will delight in hayrides running from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The hayride wagon will take off from near the courthouse and meander through beautiful fall foliage down the River Road. Other children's activities will run from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., including face painting by Miss Teacup and by Animal Friends and a huge variety of seasonal games.

Philippi's year-round Community Garden Market is capitalizing on the great fall produce available to sponsor a recipe contest that will take place at the Market at 11 a.m. The Market is also sponsoring pumpkin painting from noon to 4 p.m. For more information about both these events, stop by the Market at 106 S Main Street or call 304-457-5774.

Registration for the festival's cornhole tournament is at 11 a.m. with the first throw scheduled for noon. Live music on the special festival stage will feature Driven from noon to 2 p.m. and Full Cirkle from 3 until 5 p.m.

Most of Philippi's restaurants will be running "Fall in Love with Philippi" specials all day. To date, Lil' Moe's has announced a fall festival menu of sauerkraut, kielbasa and potatoes topped off with an October Fest draft. Smokey Ray's will feature barbecue bratwurst, potato salad and a draft beer.

According to Fetty-Santilli and Stemple volunteers are still needed to help with Saturday morning set up and clean up at the end of the day's events. Call them to offer assistance or to seek additional information.
