Alumni band to perform at WCHS homecoming event

October 11, 2013
The Inter-Mountain

Today, there will be a joyful, musical reunion on the Highlander football field. Not only is it Homecoming for Webster County High School, but also it is slated to be the largest gathering of current and former Showband and Showgirls members ever.

This year marks the 31st anniversary of the Highlander Showband and the 35th anniversary of the Showband Showgirls. There are expected to be more than 170 alumni members performing and many others in attendance during the event.

Alumni Showband members will perform the "Star-Spangled Banner" at the game opening at 7:30 p.m. During the half-time show, alumni members will take the field with current band members and perform "We Got The Beat" and to salute the originator and creator of the Showband and Showgirls, the one and only Jeffery P. Hudkins.

Hudkins, who left Webster County High School in 2009, made an indelible mark on hundreds, if not thousands of minds, young and old. His tireless efforts to strive for excellence showed through each student who gave their all, because of him and enjoyed every second!

Current Showband Director Lewis Woodard was instrumental in making this event possible and coordinating the efforts online through Facebook with the help of Jamie Jarvis, Jenny Given, Karen Hollandsworth-Smith, the Band Boosters, and many, many others.

"I can't wait until Friday when we have everyone together," stated Mr. Woodard, "This is going to be one of the most awesome things to happen in the county."

Woodard continued, "I am asking former students to help acknowledge Mr. Hudkins and his 30 years of work to make the Webster County Highlander Showband organization one of the best in the state of West Virginia."

A cordial invitation goes to all Showband, Showgirl and Silkline Alumni to be in attendance, even if not performing, and to everyone in the county to stop by to see this long-awaited performance, heartfelt reunion and acknowledgement of a great man, who shaped the lives of so many.

Homecoming events start at 7 p.m. and the ballgame will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Alumni are encouraged to join on Facebook at: WCHS Showband Alumni.
