The Elkins High School volleyball team hosted Bridgeport Thursday evening in Big 10 Conference play at Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium with the Indians winning in straight sets (25-10, 27-25, 25-15).
Bridgeport raced out to an 8-0 advantage in the first set, but the Tigers fought back with an ace by Lakin Hitt that narrowed the margin to 8-5.
However, it was all Bridgeport from that juncture as the closest Elkins would get was a six-point deficit at 9-15.
The Indians won 10 of the final 11 points to close out the set, 25-10.
The Tigers started the second by taking a 6-3 advantage thanks in part to an ace by Kayla Simmons. A kill shot from Cassie Plishka kept the three-point advantage for the home team at 8-5.
The Indians got the ball and served out from the 5-8 deficit and turned it into a 9-8 lead, and at 13-all, they served into an 18-13 advantage. Hitt eventually took over the service for Elkins and wiped out the Indians lead, giving the Tigers a 19-18 advantage.
Again though, Bridgeport gained the lead and had two set points at 24-22. Elkins battled back and had a set point of its own at 25-24 but the last three points went to the Indians for the 27-25 set score.
The third set saw another early Bridgeport run as they started up 7-2. Simmons would try to keep the Tigers close as she served the hosts to within one point at 6-7, but the Indians went on another run.
Elkins would get no closer than seven points the rest of the way and Bridgeport closed out the set and the match at 25-10.
For the match, Taylor Miller had four kills, two digs, three assists and two blocks; Simmons had three kills and five aces; and Hitt had three assists, five aces and one block.
The Tigers (4-6) will travel to Buckhannon-Upshur High at 5 p.m. Tuesday for a tri-match.
