Lucille M. Hawkins Nethken, 85, a resident of Mabie, went home to be with our Lord and Savior Sunday afternoon, Oct. 13, 2013, in St. Joseph's Hospital at Buckhannon.
She was born May 29, 1928, at Selbyville, in Upshur County. Her family moved to Randolph County in December 1936. She was the daughter of the late Obed T. Hawkins and Edith Shaw Hawkins.
On Dec. 15, 1945, she was married to Benjamin Harrison Nethken, who went home to be with the Lord March 7, 2002.
Left to cherish her memories are two sons, Albert Nethken and wife, Sinney Lou, and Ray Nethken and wife, Connie, all of Mabie; five daughters, Isabell Swecker and husband, Robert, of Beverly, Levan Kay Louge and husband, Richard, of Mabie, Jean Snyder and husband, Donald, of Kesling Mills, Linda "Sue" Williams and husband, Eugene, of Philippi and Virginia "Ginger" Rodgers and husband, Scott, of Ellamore. Lucille will be sadly missed by her 18 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren whom she loved very much. Also surviving are one brother, Owen Hawkins and wife, Pat, of Vero, Fla.; one sister, Loma Skinner and husband, Keith, of Junior; a sister-in-law, Jean Hawkins of Junior; a brother-in-law, Everett Newkirk of Shiloh, N.J.; sisters-in-law, Rosie Bland of Brunswick, Ohio, and Ila Nethken of Mabie; and several nieces and nephews.
Also preceding her in death were one brother, James Hawkins; three sisters, Helen Newkirk, Hazel Hodges and Mabel Kelley; and one great-granddaughter, Chloe Kane.
Lucille attended the schools of Upshur and Randolph county. She was a homemaker and loved crocheting, embroidery, sewing, quilting, gardening and collecting dolls. She was a member of Coalton Union Mission Church and a Christian by faith.
Friends may call from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Douglas Alderman officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Union Cemetery near Ellamore.
