Library to host digital literacy workshop

October 18, 2013
The Inter-Mountain

On March 21, the Philippi Public Library launched "3.21 EveryoneOn," a three-year national program to promote the importance of digital literacy skills and motivate individuals and families to access free community resources. As part of this program, the library will host a Workforce West Virginia Resume Writing and Job Search Workshop on Oct. 25, at 10:30 a.m.

The workshop will be taught by Workforce West Virginia employee Ellen Prehoda. She conducts weekly resume workshops in her home office in Elkins and prepares and critiques resumes on a daily basis for local jobseekers and unemployment claimants. She will conduct a class on the use of the WinWay Resume program.

Participants should bring a list containing their complete work history with dates, educational history and any certifications or licenses. Class size is limited; contact the library to register or for more information at 304-457-3495.

Workforce West Virginia received a Recovery Act Grant to enhance and expand public use computers, connection speeds and wireless capabilities at Workforce West Virginia offices statewide. The grant also allowed for computers to be placed at public libraries and National Guard armories across West

Virginia.

The Philippi Public Library was a recipient of three Workforce West Virginia computers fully loaded with programs to benefit their patrons. These computers arrived installed with the WinWay Resume program, keyboarding skills program Mavis Beacon, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and a Merriam-Webster's Reference Library program.
