Elmer Junior Butcher, 85, a resident of Elkins and Cleveland, Ohio, passed away Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, in Nella's Nursing Home.
He was born June 14, 1928, at Beverly, a son of the late James Elmer and Bernice Goddard Butcher.
He was formerly married to Elsiemae Mancini Butcher, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are three sons, James Butcher and wife, Rita, and Joseph Butcher, all of Cleveland, Ohio, and Jeffrey Butcher and wife, Connie, of Genoa; four daughters, Becky Dugan, Bobbie Sue Higgins and Patty Butcher. all of Cleveland, Ohio, and Gina Timko and husband, Dave, North Royalton, Ohio; three brothers, Richard Butcher of Virginia, Bob Butcher of Belington and Freeman "Joe" Butcher of Elkins; three sisters, Peggy Kalar of Elkins, Ruby Louis and Elaine Yeatts, both of Virginia; and 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Bruce Butcher and Sherwood Butcher; two sisters, Margaret Clark and Thelma Knippenberg; one son, Elmer Butcher Jr.; and one daughter, Pamela Frances Butcher.
Elmer attended the schools of Randolph County and was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II. He was a truck driver for Cook Coffee in Garfield Heights, Ohio, for many years and worked for the U.S. Forest Service. He was a member of the Beverly Volunteer Fire Department, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday. Oct. 29, at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins where presentation of the American flag will be made by members of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion. At Mr. Butcher's request, cremation will follow.
