ELKINS - An Elkins woman was arrested Monday after allegedly stealing and cashing a $900 money order, police said.

Nichole Shoulders, 34, was arrested on charges of uttering, a felony, and obtaining money under false pretenses, a misdemeanor, after State Police officers responded to a complaint on Sept, 22 from Jeffrey Bohon, who advised them he purchased a money order worth $900 to pay his rent. Bohon gave the money order to Shoulders to fill out for him because "he doesn't have legible handwriting," according to the criminal complaint.

Bohon told police Shoulders gave him back a sealed envelope to mail to his landlord. He said he then received a phone call from his landlord asking why Bohon had sent him a $1 money order, the complaint stated.

Two days later, a local man advised police that Shoulders gave him money to buy a $1 money order, according to the complaint. The man said he didn't question Shoulders and did as she asked, buying the money order at a convenience store in Elkins, the complaint states.

On Sept. 30, a local woman told police she gave Shoulders a ride to a local bank where Shoulders cashed the $900 money order for herself, according to the complaint.

Shoulders was arraigned by Magistrate Rob Elbon and is free on a $12,000 cash or surety bond.
