The Fiddlers' Reunion, running Friday through Sunday, is an annual event celebrating old-time music sponsored by Augusta Heritage Center of Davis & Elkins College.
The Fiddlers' Reunion kicks off Friday with the Halloween Square Dance in the Great Hall of Randolph County Community Arts Center. Beginning at 7:30 pm, there will be a 20-minute performance by Davis & Elkins College's Appalachian Ensemble, featuring a string band and dancers.
The Halloween Square Dance - costumes encouraged - follows at 8 p.m. with music provided by the October Old-Time Week staff and calling by Lou Maiuri. Lemonade and water will be provided, and attendees are welcome to bring snacks. Beginners and kids are welcome. Admission is $6 per person for those 11 and older. Davis & Elkins students, faculty and staff are admitted free. This dance is part of the Mountain Dance Trail. For more information, go to MountainDanceTrail.org
The main event of the Fiddlers' Reunion takes place on Saturday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. in the beautiful, newly remodeled lobby of Myles Center for the Arts. Dozens of West Virginia's master fiddlers and younger old-time musicians have been invited to perform throughout the day. Exhibits and sales by instrument vendors will be nearby.
At 4 p.m. a freestyle clogging and flatfoot dance contest is held with cash prizes awarded to the winners. Everyone is welcome to enter. Admission is free. Jam sessions and song swaps go on far into the night. This concert is also part of the Mountain Music Trail.
On Sunday at 10:30 a.m. the festivities end on a high note with a participatory Gospel Sing held in the Myles Center lobby.
