Philippi City Council seeks funds for sewer

The replacement of an aging force main sewer line following ongoing construction at the city's waste water treatment plant has been declared an emergency, according to Philippi city officials.

Philippi City Manager Karen Weaver said the line, which stretches from the North Philippi Park to the waste water treatment plant, has sprung about 40 leaks in recent days.

"That line is very old and, for some reason, as we started this construction (on the waste water treatment plant), we continue to have leaks in that line," Weaver said at Tuesday's council meeting. "We've had several, one again this week."

She said all the leaks in the line have been repaired.

Weaver also updated the public on the progress of the waste water construction project.

"It's moving along well, and we haven't had any problems except with our force main line," Weaver said.

She said the project is about 25 percent complete.
