PARSONS - Tucker County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Eddie Campbell confirmed there were "quite a few absences" at Tucker Valley Elementary-Middle School Wednesday, but assured parents that students in the school are safe.
The Inter-Mountain received phone calls from readers saying some parents were not sending their students to school Tuesday because they were concerned about safety issues regarding one student.
"We have two wonderful new administrators at Tucker Valley Elementary-Middle School who have assured me the building is safe," Campbell said. "Parents have called me today to express their concerns, and I have assured them safety in the school is our priority."
Campbell said the concerns stem from a recent student discipline issue.
"Some callers have expressed that they are not pleased with the action our board of education took in the issue," Campbell said. "From an administrative standpoint, the board has addressed the issue and followed the proper procedures in accordance with West Virginia State School Board policy.
"Tucker Valley Elementary-Middle School is safe and the school offers a safe environment conducive to learning," Campbell said.
